February 14 Ash Wednesday

Worship with Holy Communion and Imposition of Ashes at 7 pm.

Sometimes the irony of our calendars helps us reconsider how our different ways of keeping time intersect. You’ve likely noticed that Ash Wednesday falls on Feb. 14. I’ve already seen some chatter about what a downer this is. How can we indulge in chocolate and go out to Valentine’s Day dinner while also being reminded that we are dust and to dust we shall return? But aren't the Ashes also a symbol of love, a sign of our baptism as beloved Children of God? Can we use the opportunity to talk about the new hearts created in us, hearts turned toward telling the truth about the limits of human love and relationships?  This year, for Ash Wednesday, we will have Ash Hearts marked on our foreheads as we enter the sanctuary. Yes, we are dust...Beloved dust...
